Press Release: Hospitals join forces, build new laboratory in Elst
14 Jun 2022
On Monday 13 June, construction began on the new laboratory in Elst to merge the laboratories of Rijnstate, Hospital Gelderse Vallei (ZGV) and Canisius Wilhelmina Hospital (CWZ) for medical microbiology and immunology, clinical chemistry, and clinical pharmacy. The new laboratory organisation is called Dicoon.
Recently, Dicoon, construction consortium Medexs and technical supplier Unica signed the project contracts. The new laboratory will provide space for integrated diagnostics for the entire central and southern Gelderland region.
“A great step for the cooperating hospitals. And above all, a healthy step in the direction of our patients”, was the response of Dicoon executive Harjan van Dam. “That’s how we keep diagnostics affordable and efficient. We can offer more capacity, at an acceptable cost.”
“With the construction of this new laboratory, Dicoon is committing to sustainability,” says Jos Lans, CEO of construction consortium Medexs. “We build in accordance with circular and modular principles. The components are prefabricated, so we can reduce transportation mileage. Industrialised modular construction results in a 50 percent reduction of CO2 emissions. Additionally, we economise on the use of raw materials.”
The new laboratory will open its doors in the second half of 2023.
